Alignment: Left
Slogan: People. Before Everything | בני אדם - לפני הכל

HaAvoda, the Israeli Labor Party, is social democratic and Zionist political party established in 1968. The Labor Party is highly associated with supporting and striving for Israeli–Palestinian peace, most notably under Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in the early 1990's.  Over the years, its strength has ebbed and flowed depending on the leader and Israel's overall security situation. It currently holds just six Knesset seats, the lowest in its long and illustrious history. Long-time leader Amir Peretz won the primary held after the Party's dismal showing in April 2019, and brought in the Gesher party to help bolster its chances in this round. However, the party will be pressured on the right from Benny Gantz's Blue White centrist party and on the left by Ehud Barak and the Democratic Union.

Platform:

GENERAL

The party presents a wide, left-leaning platform covering many of the key issues impacting Israeli society.

SETTLEMENTS

Stop all building in settlements outside of larger settlement blocs.  Enact law to encourage settlers to leave.

EDUCATION

Expand the country's state education system to include ages 0-3, easing the economic burden on young families.

PEACE PROCESS

Supports a demilitarized Palestinian state whose establishment will be created through negotiations.

JERUSALEM

Jerusalem remains capital of Israel, with referendum on the future of refugee camps around the city.

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Wants to alter the new "nation-state" law such that it explicitly states that minorities have equal rights.

ECONOMY

Supports a strong economy. State needs more say in issues such as the natural gas agreement.

RELIGION AND STATE

Advocate for more religious pluralism & less Orthodox involvement in decisions, such as public transport on Shabbat.

LAST WORD

Faces tough challengers to the left & right, which may make it hard to maintain the 6 seat they currently have.
